Northeastern University is a global, experiential, research university founded in 1898 in Boston, Massachusetts, which has ranked among the top 50 national U.S. universities by U.S. News & World Report for five consecutive years. The university’s foundational strengths and goals of becoming more global, diverse, innovative, experiential, and entrepreneurial, are what set it apart from other colleges and universities and are critical to achieving the ambitious Northeastern 2025 vision. With regional campuses in Charlotte, Seattle, Silicon Valley and Toronto, Northeastern has created a network of global campuses that promote lifelong learning and provide learners with the skills they need to succeed in today’s dynamic workplace.
The university believes that Vancouver, British Columbia, is the ideal location for its next regional campus. By serving local demands for workforce development in collaboration with the impressive system of Vancouver’s domestic institutions, Northeastern hopes to contribute to Vancouver’s growth as a leading global hub for technology, sustainability, business and innovation. The university is also eager to integrate with, and hopefully enhance, this already-vibrant ecosystem of industry, education and talent.
With key industry relationships with leading firms like Amazon and Microsoft, Northeastern is uniquely positioned to provide experiential, co-op and real-life research driven opportunities to learners, benefiting from its network of relationships across the university system. In Vancouver, Northeastern will begin by providing post-graduate level education in Computer Science, Information Systems and Project Management.
To achieve these goals, Northeastern is seeking an entrepreneurial CEO (and Dean) to lead the creation of the Vancouver campus. The CEO will provide strategic leadership across all aspects of this start-up. Backed by Northeastern’s network, resources and funding, the CEO will have a unique opportunity to tailor the campus set-up and programming to Vancouver’s market. The CEO will assess the program needs within the Vancouver market, location and real estate selection, utilize strong industry and community connections to foster partnerships, and build an effective team to execute the strategic plan. Key areas of focus will include strategic planning; financial and operations management; marketing, public relations, communications, and community engagement.
The successful candidate will display a broad range of skills and capabilities with a track record of entrepreneurship, and in creating or building a business or division. This experience may be from a corporate/institutional background with a focus on both strategy and business development, a startup/high growth venture or private equity/venture capital. A strong understanding of the technology sector is a distinct advantage. The CEO will bring an extensive business network within the Vancouver community and must display drive, ambition and a passion for this exciting initiative. An academic background is not required for this position, although some level of post-graduate education is preferred.
