WMC have partnered with Taylor Ryan to support their team in the search for a new Controller as part of a retirement transition plan.
As part of a tight-knit team, the Controller will report to the CEO, and will maintain all aspects of the accounting and bookkeeping for two Canadian companies and one US company using QuickBooks and third-party software. They will be responsible for the bank reconciliation, journal entries, financial statements, foreign exchange, and accruals. On a monthly basis, the Controller will prepare KPI and financial statement packages, and report this information back to the UK head office. They will update the quarterly Contingent Liabilities Schedule and manage and distribute appropriate compliance material as required. Every year the Controller will also assist with the preparation of the five-year budget and the five-year strategic plan. The Controller will work closely with the Director, Investment and Asset Management and financial modeling skills would be an asset.
In this hands-on role, the Controller will also take on several other tasks including the preparation of all working papers and financial statements for the year end audit, and one for the UK head office. The Controller will also prepare tax working papers and ensure that all tax filing deadlines are met. They will work with advisors to ensure that all the Canadian and US tax returns are filed appropriately. As part of the role, the Controller will also assist with the annual corporate insurance renewals, the preparation and distribution of quarterly board books, maintain the corporate records, and assist the CEO as required.
To be a success in this role, you will ideally have previous experience at the Controller level, preferably with a property management, development, or real estate investment business, but other industries will be considered. You will be capable of wearing many hats and balancing a workflow that is stable yet diversified. You must be comfortable working in a small office environment, in a highly collaborative and self-driven manner. This role requires a broad range of accounting experience, and the ability to work closely with external consultants to ensure the successful and timely delivery of your work.
